Keep On Keeping On By Fern Horst "In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul." (Psalm 138:3) Today I received the final email update from a man whose wife was stricken with a brain tumor. She fought a tough battle and for some time it seemed as though she was improving. But a couple weeks ago, with her husband and two grown children at her side, she said her goodbyes and slipped into eternity. She had lived a life of service to others, but now her work for God on this earth is done. But God still has a purpose here for her husband and children. This struck me in her husband's email today, as he finished with these words: "Don't stop praying for us right yet, that the Lord would continue to give abundant grace to continue in our responsibilities and for all the changes he'll be asking of us. I anticipate some new and exciting things he's preparing to do, after such a shake-up that he's given us." Right now this man and his son and daughter are asking God to strengthen them with strength in their souls - not just for comfort and peace in their hearts, but for strength to continue their responsibilities and to prepare them for what He has for them next. It was a challenge to me to be steadfast in my conviction that God has work for me to do and that no matter the difficulties I face now or in the future, I must always keep on keeping on. Not for the sake of being a strong person or for my own sense of fulfillment, but in order to fulfill all that God has for me to do for Him. When I feel weak and discouraged, and even when I don't, my prayer needs to be that God will strengthen me with strength in my soul. Do you need to be strengthened to keep on keeping on? I'm saying a prayer right now for each one who will read this, that God will strengthen your soul when you cry out to Him, so that you can remain steadfast, productive and effective in all that God has for you to do! "The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands."
