No Separation Ever

      By Fern Horst

"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:35-39)

Many people live with a fear of some day being alone with no one to love them. Because of past experiences, there are those who fear abandonment by those they care about. And indeed, some people are very alone, separated by death, divorce, or other circumstances from those closest to them. Some abandonment is deliberate; others is inevitable, as when a parent, spouse, or close friend passes away. Persecution causes some to be put into prison. War devastates many lives, cutting off communication between loved ones. We simply don't know what the future holds.

But there is Someone who loves us more deeply than any human is able to in their limited humanness. Even more wonderful is the fact that we don't ever have to fear being separated from Him and His love. All those things that can separate us from the people we love, can never separate us from Christ. No matter where we are or what happens to us, He will always be with us; His love will always be present.

It is this fact - when we make it part of our core belief system - that gives us a peace that transcends the fear and devastation of anything that could ever happen to us.

"O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen." (Romans 11:33-36)
