Okay--I think I understand one of your points.
It is the promises that are 'conditional'--not
God's love in a general sense.
Maybe that is one of the things I was confused about.
But then I
get confused about too much in my life these days...

Perhaps I have also been watching too much "Christian" TV,
where it seems the beautiful and
'successful' are always being put on display.
I am much more apt to listen to someone's story
about coming out of harder circumstances (dealing with a death in the family,
or severe financial
crises or depression or whatever),
than I am about some 'pretty preacher in the pulpit'.
Or
maybe my cynicism has reared its ugly head too much--or a combination of all of those.
It's always been a struggle for me,
and probably will be until the day I die.
But thank you for
trying to clarify the issue,
